Buy an outdoor sauna

An outdoor sauna without a building project.

Most people looking for an outdoor sauna really want one thing: heat, outside, without the hassle. That does not have to cost a contractor, a foundation or a permit. A wood-fired sauna tent gives you the same heat for about a sixth of the price.
  • Up to 100°C, just like a traditional outdoor sauna
  • No foundation, no electrics, no contractor
  • As a rule, no permit needed
  • Complete from €1,349, wood stove included

The maths

Why an outdoor sauna rarely costs what the price tag says.

The purchase price of a fixed outdoor sauna is usually only the start. These are the items that come on top in practice, next to what the same item costs with a sauna tent.

Amounts for the fixed outdoor sauna are indicative and based on common market prices in the Netherlands. They differ per supplier, per garden and per municipality. We work it out further in what does a sauna cost.

The heat

The same warmth, the same wood stove.

The difference between an outdoor sauna and a sauna tent is not the heat source. In both cases you fire a wood stove until the stones are glowing hot, and you throw water over them for the soft, steamy heat that belongs to a real sauna.

The difference is in what surrounds it. With a fixed sauna that is a wooden building on a foundation. With MOOSSE it is a well-insulated 14 kg tent that you set up yourself.

  • Stove in RVS 430 stainless steel, 67.5 × 37.5 × 49.5 cm and 23 kg
  • Room for about 12 kg of sauna stones
  • Five-section chimney with spark arrestor
  • No electricity needed, so no cable to the garden

Why pay €8,000 for something that also costs €1,349?

An honest comparison, because you deserve the full picture.

A traditional outdoor sauna is beautiful, but expensive, fixed in place, and maintenance-heavy. MOOSSE gives you the same heat, on your terms.

Fair is fair

When a fixed outdoor sauna is the better choice after all.

We sell sauna tents, but they are not the right answer for everyone. A fixed outdoor sauna is better if you want to use it every day without hauling wood first, if you need to fit a big group at once, or if you want a structure that adds value to your home.

If you want to build in a changing room, a shower or permanent lighting, a tent will not get you far enough either. And anyone who sees firing the stove as a chore rather than part of the ritual will be happier with an electric sauna cabin.

In every other case a sauna tent gets you the same result, faster and for a lot less money.

Questions about an outdoor sauna

A fixed wooden outdoor sauna usually costs between €5,000 and €12,000, and larger models run past €20,000. Foundation, electrics and installation come on top. A MOOSSE sauna tent starts at €1,349 and comes complete with tent, wood stove and chimney.

A fixed outdoor sauna often needs a building permit in the Netherlands, because it counts as an outbuilding. A sauna tent is a temporary structure that you take down again, and as a rule it does not fall under that. Always check the rules of your own municipality, because they differ from place to place.

A fixed sauna stands outside all year and needs yearly maintenance: staining, treating and checking for rot. You can leave a sauna tent up in the garden while you use it, but you can just as easily fold it up and store it dry when you will not need it for a while.

After about 30 minutes of firing, the MOOSSE sauna tent reaches up to 100°C. That is the same temperature a traditional Finnish outdoor sauna reaches, because it is the same kind of wood-fired heat.

The tent stands on 180 × 180 cm and is 200 cm high. Allow free space around the stove and the chimney as well, and a flat, non-flammable surface. A small patio or a patch of lawn is enough.
