Portable sauna

A portable sauna of fourteen kilos.

Portable does not mean barely liftable. The tent weighs 14 kg and goes in one bag, the stove in a second. You set it up alone, in about five minutes, without a single screw.

The frame

Opens up like an umbrella.

The difference between portable and bearable is in the frame. On the MOOSSE tent the frame is attached to the fabric and the whole thing opens in one movement. You do not slide poles through sleeves or remember a sequence.

After that it is just hammering in the pegs, putting the stove in and fitting the chimney. That is it.

  • Lightweight fibreglass frame, no loose tent poles
  • Outer layer of 3-layer Oxford 300D
  • Cotton lining that holds the heat
  • Three panoramic windows for light and a view

How it works

From bag to sauna: set up in 5 minutes and up to temperature within 30 minutes.

01

Bring it in the car

Folded into two carry bags. Tent and stove fit in any trunk.

02

Fire it up

Light the fire, close the door. Up to 100°C within 30 minutes, pure wood-fired warmth.

03

Sweat

Step inside, pour water on the stones, and enjoy a real sauna session.

In practice

How portable is a portable sauna, really?

Portable is a word that product texts use too easily. So here is the honest version: you carry the 14 kg tent without trouble from the shed to the garden, or from the car to a spot a hundred metres away. The 23 kg stove is another story.

Those 23 kg are fine to lift, but it is dense weight in a bag without a convenient grip. Over a short distance that is fine. Over hundreds of metres of loose sand or a forest path you want to carry it with two people, or walk twice. The latter is usually the simplest: tent first, then the stove.

For what most people buy it for, their own garden plus the occasional weekend away, this is no problem at all. If you plan to move it over long distances every week, keep in mind that the real weight is in the stove.

In the car

Fold the back seat down: the tent bag is 150 cm long and will not fit otherwise. Lay the stove flat against the seat back, so it does not slide forward when you brake.

When lifting

Lift with your legs, not your back, and put the stove bag on a raised surface first if you are loading it alone. Let the stove cool down completely before you pack it.

One more thing

Questions about portability

The MOOSSE tent weighs 14 kg including the frame. The wood stove weighs 23 kg and comes in a separate bag. Together that is 37 kg, spread over two bags that you do not have to lift at the same time.

Yes. The tent opens up in one movement and the frame largely sets itself up. Putting the stove in and fitting the chimney can also be done alone, although it is less hassle with two. You need no tools.

For most people it is fine over short distances, comparable to a full shopping bag. Over long stretches of sand or through a forest it is heavy, especially together with the stove. Expect to walk twice.

The tent is secured with pegs and guy lines and has been tested in Dutch and Belgian weather. In strong wind, set it up out of the wind, for example behind a fence or a hedge, and check the pegs before you start firing.

The outer layer is 3-layer Oxford 300D, made to be folded often. The most important thing is to store it dry. Moisture in the bag is what wrecks tent fabric over time, not the folding itself.
